Landwolf the Ironmaw

Landwolf the Ironmaw, Stormcrown of the World-Ridge, was whelped in the ash-choked cradle of the World-Ridge, where the continent’s spine splits open and bleeds iron. His mother, a direwolf the size of a siege tower, died birthing him during a lightning strike that carved her name into the cliff face. The storm kept the name; Landwolf kept the scar.He was raised by the mountain itself. Avalanches were lullabies. Blizzards were tutors. At three winters he gnawed through a glacier to reach the marrow of the earth, and the marrow tasted like destiny. The pack elders tried to exile him for eating the moon’s reflection. He ate the elders instead, then apologized by forging their bones into the first links of his armor. His fangs are not teeth; they are smelteries. Each one is a forge where lightning is tempered into steel. When he bites, the wound cauterizes with the heat of a dying star. His pelt is living stormcloud, heavy with the weight of every hurricane that ever lost a fight. His eyes are twin thunderheads that roll when he’s amused; the world trembles. The Stormcrown found him on the night the sky declared war on the earth. He was scaling the Ridge’s highest peak, chasing a rumor that the summit held the heart of the First Tempest. The crown was waiting, hammered from the lightning that refused to die, tines still screaming with the thunder-god’s final curse. Landwolf bit the pedestal in half. The crown chose. It sank into his skull like a sentence of plasma, fusing with bone, rewiring his soul into a living capacitor. The mountain bowed. The storm knelt. Now he wears the Stormcrown as both crown and cage. Tempest Dominion: One roar, and lightning salutes. One thought, and thunder files paperwork. Unyielding: Every wound feeds the crown; every scar becomes a battery. Crown’s Edict: Once per moon, he nullifies a law of nature. Gravity has unionized. Rivers flow uphill to apologize. But the crown feeds. Every storm shortens his life by one heartbeat. Every bolt carves a new scar across the Ridge, spelling his true name in a language only mountains read. When the final scar completes the sentence, the crown will detonate, taking the continent with it. Landwolf sharpens his fangs on the thought. His warhammer, Thunderfang, is the fossilized jawbone of the thunder-god who wore the crown first. It still tries to bite. His armor is plated with storm-drake scales that swore fealty after he ate their patriarch. His cloak is woven from hurricane contrails that follow him like loyal hounds.Enemies learn quickly: you do not fight the wolf wearing the storm. You petition for mercy in the form of tribute (lightning rods, noise-canceling helmets, and the occasional virgin volcano). A coalition of sky-pirates once tried to steal the crown. Landwolf exhaled. Their airships now orbit as perpetual thunderclouds, raining apology letters in seventeen languages. His lair is the Tempest Vault, a cavern behind the Ridge’s highest waterfall, where the water falls up. The walls are lined with trophies: the melted crown of a sun-king, the petrified scream of a banshee, the first snowflake that ever learned to fear him. The floor is a map of every battlefield he’s broken, etched in lightning burns.Landwolf keeps one weakness: silence. Absolute calm unnerves him. On still nights he paces the Vault, carving runes into the air with his claws until the atmosphere cracks up. His diary is a single thunderstone. It reads: Today I taught a volcano to heel. Tomorrow: convince the stars to blink in Morse. One day the Stormcrown will finish its sentence. The final scar will close. Landwolf will stand at the summit, crown blazing, and roar the continent into a new shape. The explosion will birth a new mountain range shaped like his open maw. Geologists will name it Canis Ignis and argue for centuries over whether the lightning scars spell a warning or a love letter.Until then, Landwolf the Ironmaw, Stormcrown of the World-Ridge, prowls the peaks with a cloak of hurricanes, a hammer of thunder-god bone, and a grin that says: The storm is not coming. The storm is home.
